Social Media Utilization for B2B vs B2C

Dwight asked a great question today in class about the difference in how business-to-business companies use social media versus business-to-consumer companies. An article written in 2011 by a few business school lecturers in the UK explored the distinction. From a sample of 1,000 UK B2B companies, the researchers got 92 completed surveys that revealed the following:

  1. Only 27% of respondees used social media
  2. Those that did relied heavily on Facebook
  3. Reasons for using social media included attracting new customers (91%), cultivate relationships (86%), and increase brand awareness (82%)
