What social media are you allowed to see?

A couple of interesting articles in the news about how Facebook (and Twitter, in a different way) filters its feeds, so that certain posts are emphasized and other posts are minimized. In Wired, there is a brief article and infographic about how Twitter and Facebook attempt to customize feeds to match their users preferences. And in Gawker, a staff member at an NGO writes about the ethical implications of Facebook’s algorithm to reduce organic reach; he raises the point that many nonprofits rely almost solely on Facebook for advertising, and they are hit equally hard by these restrictions.
